What to wear for family pictures
Deciding what everyone should wear for family pictures can feel a tad overwhelming. So as a Utah Family Photographer I am here to share a few of my tips and tricks to help you decide. Here are the 3 things I tell my clients to consider:
Your location - From gorgeous red rock, deep forest greens, or dry land fields, in Utah we are so blessed to be surrounded by a variety of gorgeous locations. That being said look around. If you are going to be taking pictures in lots of greens, probably avoid wearing green colors, and pick outfits that would fit the weather conditions as well as color scheme in that area.
Colors - I like to tell my clients to stick with natural earthy tones. Avoid bright vibrant colors that will date themselves or draw too much attention on one single person. Tans, navy blues, maroons, browns, blacks and whites are a few examples of some great earthy tones.
Avoid too many patterns - Patterns are fun, and they keep the family from looking too "matchy matchy" when getting your family pictures taken professionally. But having too many people in patterns can make a photo seem chaotic. That being said as a general rule of thumb, I like to tell my clients there can be 1 person in a pattern for every 3 people. Depending on the time of year those wearing solid colors can always layer up with a cardigan or jacket.
Those are just a few of my tips and tricks when deciding what your family should wear for family pictures. As a Family Photographer I would also suggest going to pinterest for inspiration. Also, Mom, you pick out what you want to wear first and then find what you want the rest of your family to wear. It is important for you to feel beautiful first and foremost so that you can help your family feel comfortable in front of the camera.
