Tips for Mom | Summer Utah Family Photos | Lofthouse Family

As a Southern Utah family photographer, and because I have had my family photos taken a time or two myself, I completely understand that there are a lot of stresses, especially for Mom, during family photos. Here are some tricks to help ease your stress AND hopefully help your family photo session run smoothly.

As a Mom you want your kids to be on their best behavior during your family pictures. You paid a lot of money and your want the photos to turn out their best, believe me I get it. Often times Mom is stressing out so bad that you can see the stress on her face during the photos, she is looking angry because her kids are not acting perfect, and more. I think a lot of times we forget the reason we are having our family photos taken in the first place. Are we wanting perfectly posed and curated images, or are we wanting memories of our kids authentic personalties and the stage of life that we are in? I would dare say the later.

So Momma if you are getting your family photos taken in the near future I give you a challenge. I encourage your to embrace the chaos, let your photographer take control, and unless you are asked to intervene just sit back and enjoy the moment. After photographing families for over 9 years I have gotten very good at calming a situation, changing the mood, or trying something new to distract. All of this while allowing everyone's (including mom's) true personalities shine through during pictures.

I can promise that if you just play, embrace the moment and let your photographer take charge, your session will go more smoothly, you will look happier in your photos, and your photos will turn out more candid and life like than you could have ever imagined.
